Such a challenging moment at the dinner table night - I wonder if anyone has any words of wisdom for ErkiV and me? Our little bear, the inspiration behind freedible, can only tolerate 15 ingredients: 4 meat proteins (lamb, chicken, turkey, salmon), 3 veges (frozen peas, corn & yellow potatoes), 4 fruits (counting lemon juice), #glutenfree oats from BobsRedMill & then a few things like olive oil, salt, maple syrup & sugar. Yet this little guy is extremely nurturing and ridiculously empathetic for his 6 long years and has started to tell us that he doesn't want to eat any animals.
Tonight, I made the mistake of presenting broiled drumsticks & he wouldn't even touch them. So, I found myself explaining to this little boy who is allowed so little choice with respect to his food that, alas, vegetarian isn't really a sustainable choice for him either. After all, boy cannot live on peas, corn & potato alone! We continue to try introducing new foods but the botannicals tend to be the toughest, and soy, dairy & shellfish are counter-indicated for a variety of different reasons. In the meantime, anyone have any words of wisdom for us? Do you know of any kids books that might contextualize this for him? Any insights are much appreciated!More

Here are the two things we could come up with. First the Lion King movie. It's a great movie, but Mufasa tells his son about eating the antelope as part of the circle of life. Maybe it could work here too?!
We have not read this book, but we have heard about it, "Eat Like a Dinosaur." It's more for a paleo diet, but it does touch on food allergies. "Eat Like a Dinosaur aims to give children with food allergies inspiration to be excited about the foods they can eat." http://www.free-press-release.com/news-eat-like-a-dinosaur-by-the-paleo-parents-set-for-release-on-march-21-1329414721.html
