FAACT's Philly Conference will provide a full day of educational sessions led by leading medical professionals and food allergy advocates. The conferences offer education and support for parents, grandparents, school personnel, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and teens. The conference will include specialized breakout sessions, including a session specifically for adults who have food allergies. Keynote speakers will be members of FAACT’s Medical Advisory Board presenting on food allergy and anaphylaxis management, as well as the latest food allergy research. There will be workshops for nurses, registered dietitians & school food service personnel, parents & school personnel, and adults with food allergies. There will be sessions about transitioning through the school years while living with food allergies, baking demo sessions with leading allergy cookbook authors, and much, much more. School and Clinical Nurses Workshop: FAACT has partnered with National Association of School Nurses (NASN) to offer a two-hour workshop for school and clinical nurses on 504 plans, IHP’s, and IEP’s and the school nurse section of the FAME School Toolkit launching this spring. School and Clinical Registered Dietitians & School Food Service Personnel Workshop: There will be a two-hour workshop for school and clinical registered dietitians, school food service personnel, and undergrad students in nutrition programs to learn more about managing food allergies in the school setting and review the School Nutrition section in the FAME School Toolkit. The undergrad curriculum for registered dietitians does not include any content about food allergy management or anaphylaxis, so FAACT wants to educate students before they enter the work force. Parents & Other School Personnel Workshop: There will be a two-hour workshop for parents and other school personnel to learn more about 504 plans, IHP’s, IEP’s, along with discussing Accommodations and what their rights are. We will also review the Parents/Guardians and Administrators/School Staff sections in the FAME School Toolkit. Adults with Food Allergies Workshop: We are excited to announce that we will be offering an additional workshop for adults living with food allergies during each FAACT conference scheduled in 2014. The Adults Living with Food Allergies Workshop will include presentations by keynote speakers, medical professionals, and guest presenters in all four locations. This interactive and informational workshop is designed to provide attendees with a better understanding of food allergies and the tools and resources available to help them improve their quality of life. Workshop topics include: •Food Allergies, Anaphylaxis, and Prevalence in Adults •Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS) •Dining out with Food Allergies •Traveling with Food Allergies •Tips of Managing Food Allergies with a Busy Lifestyle •Managing Food Allergies in the Workplace: Know the Laws & Your Rights •Peer to Peer Education Program for Adults with Food Allergies Morning Workshop: 9:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. Lunch: 11:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Afternoon Workshop: 1:15 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Participants attending this workshop will also be encouraged to provide their input on effective policy change to better support the needs of the food allergic community. Keynote speakers include members of FAACT’s Medical Advisory Board presenting on food allergy and anaphylaxis management, the psychosocial impact of living with food allergies, and the latest food allergy research.
